Symbols In The Snow

All of nature’s elements have an air of magick about them, should we choose to harness their unique energies. And prince among them is snow – the wondrous winter white-out that rubs everything out, provides a blank canvas and allows everything to start over again. For a short time, everything is beautiful. For a short time, everyone sees the world through child-like eyes once more. For a short time, we are given a glimpse of another dimension: a dimension where time seems to stand still, space seems infinite, and perceptions are shifted. Snow is as elusive as it is short-lived, so the best kind of snow magick is quick and takes little preparation.

My fascination with sacred shapes at present is what drove my idea of working magick should it snow, and today, thanks be to the universe, the opportunity finally presented itself. A beautiful blank canvas of snow covered our blank garden after a few hours of snowfall this morning, its beauty enhanced by dainty bird footprints as they rushed to replenish their energy and warmth at our feeding station.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, so I’m hoping that my scribbling of sacred shapes in the snow will be as effective as it was quick. Any thick stick or baton of wood will do it. I chose a heart for love, a pentagram for protection, a six-pointed star for spirituality, a pound sign for abundance and a rainbow (which you can barely see) for luck. I trust that these energies will come flowing into my life all the faster!

You could of course scribe words in the snow, and don’t forget it’s an act of magick in itself going out and playing in the snow and awakening your inner child, or walking in the snow and soaking up that atmosphere of newness, being purified body and soul as the fresh air enters your lungs and pinks up your cheeks. Remember to feed your wildlife friends and to give them fresh water when all natural sources of water may be frozen, as honouring nature will always bring blessings to your door.
